A few weeks ago I spent a relaxing, long weekend in Amsterdam. The city invites you to stroll for hours in the streets, discover small shops and of course taste the local delicacies. In addition to the well-known sights and districts, there are numerous great cafés and restaurants, of which I have compiled the highlights from my last trip to Amsterdam.
Moods Coffee Corner | www.themoods.eu
Address: Lindengracht 249, 1015 KH Amsterdam
Small but nice: The Moods Coffee Corner. Whether you just want to drink a cup of coffee or are looking for a brunch place in Amsterdam – everyone will find something delicious here.
The Avocado Show | www.theavocadoshow.com
Address: Daniël Stalpertstraat 61, 1072 XB Amsterdam
The name says it all: All dishes in The Avocado Show include avocados. There’s probably nothing more hip than that – there are even queues here, which is why you should be put on the waiting list early.
Tony’s Chocolonely Store | tonyschocolonely.com
Address: Pazzanistraat 1, 1014 DB Amsterdam
The chocolate from Tony’s is not only incredibly delicious, but also 100% slave free. The mission behind the brand is clear: Chocolate should be produced fairly and without child labour or slaves. Those who like chocolate and want to support this mission are absolutely right here.
Bloemenmarkt
Address: Singel, 1012 DH Amsterdam
Sometimes you gotta make a break from eating. At the famous Bloemenmarkt in Amsterdam you can buy fresh flowers but also all kinds of seeds. Or of course decorative tulips made from wood.
Original Stroopwafels | albertcuyp-markt.amsterdam
Address: Albert Cuyp Straat t/o 182, Stand 134, 1073 BL Amsterdam
For me Stroopwafels are an absolute must when travelling to the Netherlands. I love Stroopwafels and can warmly recommend the small stand at the Albert Cuyp market, where the waffles are prepared fresh and according to the original recipe.
Reypenaer Cheese Tasting Room | www.reypenaercheese.com
Address: Singel 182, 1015 AJ Amsterdam
In the Reypenaer Cheese Tasting Room cheese and wine lovers get their money’s worth. Here you can try your hand at any type of cheese in combination with delicious wines.
The Chicken Bar | chickenbar.amsterdam
Address: Voetboogstraat 6, 1012 XL Amsterdam
The rotisserie chicken is the specialty of the house and really very, very tasty. Chicken and local beer – the perfect combination.
Bar The Tailor | www.barthetailor.com
Address: Dam 9, 1012 JS Amsterdam
Delicious, original cocktails, such as the Mai Tie (below) can be found in the bar The Tailor. I recommend a seat at the bar, because the preparation of the cocktails is totally fascinating.
