There are so many products out there which can be quite overwhelming. In this skincare 101 post we are having a look at facial cleansers and explain which ones exist, what they actually do and how to use them.
First Things First
Cleansing is the first step in your skin care routine. It is important to cleanse your face at least once a day in order to remove dead skin cells, oil, dirt and other pollutants from your skin. While splashing your face in the morning might be enough, you will need to use a cleanser suitable for your skin type in the evening to get rid of all the dirt. A good cleansing routine helps your skin to unclog pores and renew itself overnight. It also prepares the skin for all the products that follow so that they can perform their job at their best.
Types Of Cleansers
Let’s break down the different type of cleansers (or the most common ones):
Gel Cleansers
Gel cleansers have – as the name suggests – a gel-like consistency and help deep cleansing your face. They are great in eliminating surface oil and acne-causing bacteria and therefore remove impurities and prevent breakouts. People with oily skin do well with a gel based cleanser.

Cream Cleansers or Cleansing Milk

Oil Cleansers
Cleansing your skin with oil might sound weird, but oil cleansers are very gentle and add an extra portion of moisture to your skin. It is recommended to use them when double cleansing – which means that you clean your face with an oil cleanser first and then give it a second rub with another cleansing products such as a cleansing gel or milk.

Clay Cleansers
Clay cleansers are perfect to draw out impurities from your skin more effectively. They are applied to dry skin and then washed off with water. The clay sticks to your skin and draws out dirt and extra sebum in your pores which is unique and cannot be done with a gel or milk cleanser.

Micellar Cleansers
Micellar waters have become very popular and is a water-based, non-soap cleanser. They are easy to use: add some micellar water to a cotton pad and wipe all over your face – done! It can also be used after you’ve cleansed your face with another cleanser to remove the last bit of dirt.
