We’ve all heard about micellar face cleanser, right? But what about micellar hair care? And what even are micelles? Let me tell you very briefly: Micelles are tiny molecules that attract impurities like excess oil and dirt. They work well when used in skin care formulas, thus the industry took it one step further and used it in hair care products too. While your skin does not require rinsing after using micellar water, you’ll want to rinse the product when using it on your hair. Redken launched a new product line consisting of a micellar shampoo, a conditioner as well as a hair cleansing cream. The line is called Clean Maniac formulated with micellar technology. The products are sulfate- and silicone-free and it was developed for women and men with normal hair that want to free their hair of dirt and debris. The shampoo gently lifts impurities („like a magnet“ they say) such as pollution, daily grit, styling buildup, and excess sebum from the hair, leaving it clean without feeling stripped or dry.
While I already use and love micellar water cleanser for my face, I couldn’t resist and order the Clean Maniac Micellar Set (and you can even get it for a special price of CHF 30 instead of CHF 61.20 on haar-shop.chhaar-shop.ch) by Redken. I have color treated hair, which shouldn’t be a problem when using the micellar shampoo, and use styling products every day which is why I was looking for a good cleansing shampoo to remove all that excess buildup.
First thoughts? I really love the smell of the shampoo and as usual, you don’t need much of the product. While I’m a fan of the shampoo, I’m not entirely sure about the conditioner. You’ll need way more product (like two or three times the amount than the shampoo) and after rinsing, my hair felt kind of dry and it didn’t moisturize the way usually a conditioner does. So before blow drying my hair, I used the Nutritive Nectar ThermiqueNutritive Nectar Thermique by Kérastase (a leave-in cream) to protect my hair from heat damages and to make sure I can brush through it easily. The result? The doubts after using the conditioner were blown away (hah!). Okay maybe not completely, but my hair looked clean, shiny, and it even added volume. However, if you’re looking for a deeply moisturizing and softening conditioner, this one is not for you. Nevertheless, I’m sure the Micellar Set is quite nice when you’re using it just now and then. I might be using it once a week to make sure I don’t strip my hair too much but get rid of the styling buildup.
Let me know whether you’ve tried the Redken Clean Maniac Micellar Shampoo and Conditioner too!
