Yes, for real. You may think: What the fork…? Well let me introduce you to Elephbo. Elephbo is a young startup from Zurich in Switzerland (founded by Nicolas Huxley) that recycles cement packaging material from Cambodia and produces high quality fashion products whilst supporting the ones in need and contributing thereby to a better environment. This already sounds interesting, right? Let me explain to you further.
In Cambodia cement powder is often packed and transported in bags and after they’ve used it at construction sites, there are tons of leftover packaging. Due to lack of waste management this results in a lot of material not being properly disposed. So what Elephbo does, is that they collect the material at different sites, wash and treat it without the use of any chemicals, let it dry and then cut it into pieces. The collected pieces are then shipped to Europe (Bosnia, to be precise), where they transform the pieces of the cement bags into uber-cool, sustainable fashion products such as weekender bags, laptop bags, wash bags, or wallets (more to come!).
You’re curious now how the bags look like, right? Scroll down to discover some pieces of their collection. By the way, you can still support Elephbo on Kickstarter.
