How to layer skincare products the right way? How many skincare products can you layer? Does layering skincare products work? Definitely. Maybe you’ve wondered the same thing after you’ve applied a facial oil or serum, whether it’s before or after moisturizer. Applying facial care products in the correct order will ensure that the skin can absorb all the benefits of each product.
A simple rule of thumb is to apply the products with the thinnest consistency to the thickest or from liquid to oily.
The morning routine is all about protection from the sun, pollution and weather. This is why peelings and other treatment products, such as retinol, can be saved for the night. To achieve the best results, the following skincare sequence steps should be followed in order to layer skincare the right way:

Step 1: Cleanser
In the morning it is sufficient to cleanse your face briefly with a little water or, if necessary, with a light facial cleanser for your respective skin type. In the evening, the cleansing should be very thorough to remove all makeup residue and other dirt. Make sure that your facial cleanser is free of sulphates. If you want to do double cleansing, the first facial cleanser should be oil-based.
Step 2: Toner
If you have never used toner before and your skin does not have any major blemishes or problems, you can skip this step. Toners have a water-like consistency and penetrate the skin quickly, preparing it for the rest of your facial care routine. A good toner can restore the pH of the skin and remove hard water residue.
Step 3: Serum
Serums contain highly concentrated, nutrient-rich active ingredients that address specific skin problems. It is therefore important to apply them at the beginning of your skin care routine and that you really take the time to massage the product into your skin. There are many different serums on the market. In the morning, however, it is recommended that you use an antioxidant serum as these offer a variety of benefits – from dulling the skin’s inflammatory response to neutralizing damage caused by UV rays and environmental pollutants.

Step 5: Moisturizing
After applying the serum and eye care, everything should be sealed with a moisturizer. Moisturizers are usually thicker in consistency. This helps to lock in moisture and protect the skin. However, there are also lighter versions such as gel creams or lotions. If you are a fan of facial oils, you should integrate the oil into this layer – either over or instead of the moisturizer.

Step 6: Sunscreen
An absolute must, no matter if it’s sunny or not – our skin must be protected from sunlight every day. Applying sunscreen should be the last step in the morning routine. It is recommended to use an SPF 30 or higher.
Incorporate every now and then: Masks and Peels
Targeted treatment products such as masks and peels can be used 1-3 times a week, whenever your skin needs it most. Use wash-off masks and peels after cleansing and toning but before applying serums. Leave-on masks can be layered on after serums or simply on your freshly cleansed skin.
