Culinary or Food Tourism is the pursuit and enjoyment of unique and memorable food and drink experiences, both far and near.“ – Worldfoodtravel
Visiting New York City is already pure excitement itself. I traveled to this wonderful city about six years ago and couldn’t wait to return. Before my boyfriend and I took off, we’ve put together a list of restaurants and bars that we wanted to visit during our stay. Hence I thought I’d share the amazing spots we discovered with great food and drinks. Scroll down to discover 15 of the best places for drinks and food in NYC!
Tacombi | www.tacombi.com
Address: 267 Elizabeth St Nolita, New York City, NY 10012
If you’re looking for an authentic Mexican taco place, then this one’s for you. The tacos are amazing and so is the guacamole that you can get as a starter (you should definitely try it!). Try their Mezcal Mule along with it.
The Grotto NYC | www.thegrottonyc.com
Address: 69 New Street, New York, NY 10004
The restaurant itself doesn’t impress that much. But the pizza does! I tried a simple cheese slice and it tasted so good. Probably one of the tastiest pizza you can get in New York City.
Numero 28 Pizzeria | www.numero28.com
Address: 28 Carmine Street, New York, NY 10014
Numero 28 is specialized in authentic Neapolitan pizza. Of course they also serve classic Italian dishes. I would definitely go for a pizza though. If you’re a smoked ham and arugula lover, go for the pizza San Daniele.
King Cole Bar | www.stregisnewyork.com
Address: 2 E 55th St at 5th Avenue, New York, NY 10022
The world famous King Cole Bar is located in The St. Regis New York and has been visited by people such as Salvador Dali, Marilyn Monroe, and John Lennon. It’s a great bar to hang out and enjoy a drink before dinner – which is what we did. Try the „Red Snapper“, which might be better known as Bloody Mary, the signature cocktail of the King Cole Bar.
Gray’s Papaya | www.grayspapayanyc.com
Address: 2090 Broadway (Btwn 71st & 72nd St), New York, NY 10032
They claim to serve the best damned frankfurter you’ll ever eat. And they are probably right! If you’re into hot dogs, this is a must-visit place for you. Also, they have a choice of fruity drinks (such as a papaya drink), if you want to go for something refreshing.
Levain Bakery | www.levainbakery.com
Address: West 74th St, Harlem, Wainscott, and Amsterdam Avenue, New York, NY
The founders of the Levain Bakery followed one simple mission: To create the world’s greatest chocolate chip cookie. And they did! These are probably the best cookies I’ve eaten. Ever. They are baked fresh daily and you’ll surely have to wait in line for some minutes. But I’m telling you – it’s worth it. Try the dark chocolate chip cookie and enjoy it while it’s warm.
Pure Thai Cookhouse | www.purethaicookhouse.com
Address: 766 9th Ave, New York, NYC 10019
Located in Hell’s Kitchen Pure Thai Cookhouse serves signature dishes that you would only find in Thailand itself. The restaurant is small but very cute. I can recommend their steamed vegetable dumplings and you should definitely try their wok stir-fried dishes.
Dough | www.doughdoughnuts.com
Address: 14 W 19th St, New York, NY 10011
We stopped at Dough while shopping in the city. They have a wide variety of donuts and we decided on an blood orange glazed donut. They’re super big so you might want to share it.
Magnolia Bakery | www.magnoliabakery.com
Address: 401 Bleecker St W 11th & Bleeker Street, New York, NY 10014
Any fan of Sex And The City should stop by Magnolia Bakery and get one of their cupcakes as enjoyed by Carrie and Miranda in the series.
Los Tacos No. 1 | www.lostacos1.com
Address: 75 9th Ave. (Chelsea Market), New York, NY 10011
We stopped by at Los Tacos No. 1 while strolling through Chelsea Market. They serve fantastic tacos and other signature Mexican dishes. Perfect to stop by and fill your tummy with happiness.
The Doughnut Project | www.thedoughnutproject.com
Address: 10 Morton St, New York, NY 10014
In their little shop you’ll find hand crafted yeast raised donuts. We decided on a glazed donut and also tried a more special one: a frozen donut. It was filled with a cream made of berries and tasted delicious.
Nathan’s Famous | www.nathansfamous.com
Address: 1310 Surf Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11224
Nathan’s Famous is home of the annual Hot Dog Eating Contest. They were founded 1916 on Coney Island and the original restaurant is still there at the corner of Surf and Stillwell. We’ve also been at the Boardwalk Nathan’s Famous – but beware of the sea gulls wanting to steal your food.
Coney Island Brewing Company | www.coneyislandbeer.com
Address: 1904 Surf Ave, Brooklyn, NY 11224
The Coney Island Brewery is located right next to the amusement park. They have a fantastic choice of tasty beer and you can even join a free tour through their brewery. I recommend getting a flight of beer and taste different one’s.
Sabbia | www.eataly.com
Address: 200 5th Ave, New York, NY 10010
Sabbia is a little bit hard to find but in an unbeatable location. Located on the rooftop of Eataly you can enjoy a drink or delicious food while enjoying an amazing view at the Flatiron Building (one of my favorite buildings in New York). They serve amazing bruschetta, cheese and salami. We’ve also tried Frosé (frozen rosé) there for the first time and loved it.
The Butcher’s Daughter | www.thebutchersdaugther.com
Address: 19 Kennare St, New York, NY 10012
The name might be irritating because The Butcher’s Daughter is actually a vegetarian restaurant. It’s very hip as you can tell from their interior decoration and so is the food. What I liked the most were the fresh juices that you could choose from.
